Minutes
Agreed
Richard Stubbs gave out copies of a detailed typed report on what has been going on with the project and what to expect in some cases. Steve reported that the limitations of the Set top boxes which limited the type of content that could be seen on the Net had been substantially resolved by the fact that Internet Explorer would run using the Citrix client software. Cabling has started at Lund Point and trenching will start on the 25th Sept. The first stage will be Office – Lund Point. It is anticipated that the Set top boxes will be in use by early October.
Brian reported that the Contract should be sorted out sometimes this week. The question of copyrights and schedule then arose. It was agreed to put it on “hold” until we had information from the DfES as to whether funding could be rolled into next year.
VNL, Mase and Pace to liaise as necessary to determine if service can be implemented.
Brian to liase in order to get code altered so as to run on set top box, providing it can be displayed on Netscape 3 it should work with the STB. Bid for funding to Neighbourhood Renewal Fund had been made to cover costs.
Plato software was being tested using the ICA client. It had to run under Windows so full deployment depends on success of negotiations with Microsoft regarding costs. Richard Stubbs to follow up on this.
It looked as though it would be possible to use this.
We noted that all outstanding issues now appeared to be resolved and that the contract would soon be signed.
The workers started today which was a week earlier than planned with the result that an induction had not been organised. This was immediately rectified and Brian, Richard, Linda and Tee took on responsibility for organising the first two weeks of work.
The College’s agreement that the Learn Direct Centre could be used to house the servers and workers was gratefully noted.
Agreed that the workers should prepare a basic information leaflet for tenants about the sockets that were being installed and the services that would be made available.
.
Things were believed to be progressing well
Richard Stubbs promised talking to the College so that the programme could be revived here.
Michael Mulquin would be attending a meeting about this in the near future and would report back to us.
Richard Stubbs presented a revised project plan and explained that approximately three months delay had been caused through problems with procurement. The plan was accepted.
Richard Stubbs circulated a revised risk assessment which was noted. A new risk had been identified which was user confusion caused as a result of their being two ways to access the web namely via the inbuilt browser and also using Internet Explorer on the windows desktop.
Five places have been offered to Carpenters for the WUC conference. Tee, Linda, Satnam, Hammad and Richard Stubbs then indicated their willingness to attend this and Brian also said he was interested. Richard undertook to see if six spaces could be booked and would confirm details.
The next meeting will be on Wed 17th October at the Carpenters Housing Office, at 3pm. The change is to accommodate Rick Smith of DfES who was unable to make our scheduled meeting
