MINUTES OF THE CARPENTERS CONNECT STEERING COMMITTEE HELD ON 19th July 2004

John Defoe, who stood in as the chair, called the meeting to order at 3.10pm.

1.          Minutes of the last meeting and matters arising

1.1       (re 4.4) This should have read ““ Work has started on a fault reporting mechanism and hopefully would be on the system very soon.”

2.           Home 2Home

2.1        Richard Stubbs talked us through the handout

2.2              On going training on filming and editing involving new set of learners

2.3              Summer School in C&D 2nd-6th Aug will be filmed

2.4       Music clearance is being awaited for the films made before they could be used on RegenTV.

2.5       10 films made which would be put on the system very soon

3.           Project Funding & associated issues.

3.1              Richard Stubbs explained the handout. Highlights include:.

3.2              ERDF funds are yet to be formally confirmed, no longer any chance of starting in August but hopefully would be available from September.

3.3              Rooff Ltd was underpaid by £6000 and deducted the money from monies they owed to Newham.net  The Council has now agreed it was a mistake and has promised to pay Rooff

3.4              Sure Start has agreed a grant of £5000 with respect to the delivery of the presentation and interview training course

3.5              Likely that the funds for Regentv will be used as a match fund for the ERDF grant now that a great deal of the SRB match has been spent.

3.6              The whole project is very short of cash. 

4.           Technical Issues

Richard Overton reported that:

4.1       More languages would be on air very soon.

4.2             Reporting mechanism not in place yet but working on it.

4.3       Still working on the schools’ system will need to appeal to Mr Willis for assistance

4.4       The recycled computers are ready but further tests need to be done esp. on fire hazard

4.5             Lorraine then reported that DLR would be giving money to people who would give their views and will like this information to be put on the system.

4.6       Richard Overton would like to re launch the system as it is now:

v     More reliable

v     Has 10 new films added

v     6 New satellite TV languages

v     A new Interface

v     Games back on line

v     Masterplan update

            This would encourage better usage and new awareness.

4.7       The system is now using a laser from the council as the fibre was broken and it is very good. Newham.Net will likely get a paying customer.

4.8       A second life support is being set up for H2H. It could now connect with Space via laser. Space would likely produce contents for us.

5           School and Craft College

5.1        Richard Overton, Nicola and Gary had been guests at a showing of “Meet the       Class” a film on the school which the kids enjoyed

5.2         Support will have to be offered until the teachers are comfortable with the system       after which discussion/ suggestions on other likely films

5.3        The College is quiet as they are on holiday

6.           Chairing

6.1       Ms Aniekan Umoren is the new chair and will take over from Mr. Tim Willis who             has a new appointment.

7.      Next meeting.

Due to the holiday season, the August meeting is cancelled. Richard Stubbs agreed to circulate an update in August because of the funding situation.  Next meeting is on 20th Sept 2004.
