The meeting was called to order at 3.15pm by the new chair Tim Willis.

 Self-introductions were made.

1.      Minutes and matters arising

The minutes of the meeting of 19th May were adopted

2.      Finance and related issue

Richard Stubbs went through the hand out explaining the various points. Money has literally run out but efforts are being made to get/source for funds from various channels.

SRB

Providing the re-appraisal is successful the SRB will provide funds for two project staff up until September. A meeting with the University of East London and some other parties looks promising and could form the basis of a new bid.  Carpenters and Docklands Centre might be used to set up another training programme on the Estate and this could support a new SRB that would fund H2H.

LSC

The TMO submitted a bid to the LSC so as to fund the H2H but no reply yet on this.

ODPM

No news yet on this because of the jury service that Chris is on but hopefully we would get something. We are expecting and hoping that between £500,000 - £600,000 might be given to us.

Developing a business case

Damovo is working with Newham Council to develop a business case that could underpin deployment at a borough level. They are also working with Cisco on a business case for deployment at a wider level.

Video production

Broadway Maylan, the Master planners working on the Estate are sympathetic to our plight and are trying to get us some money. MT has also been able to get some money for some films for “Newham TV” but this is a short-term project.

English Partnership

Talks going on with them to see how we could work together and maybe get some funding.

Tenants empowering grant

This would need to be applied for by the TMO.

3.      Technical Update.

Connectivity

The problems with Blick are still unresolved and a number of homes could be connected if this was sorted out. Carpenters Building College was connected. The project gets free use of it for training

Laser and microwave link to Borough

Hopefully the fibre link would be connected soon then the service could be offered on the computer.

Air conditioning

One air condition is in place and switched on but then the games server had to be shut to reduce heat generation. Electricians are expected on site to work on this.

Games

Due to a hitch the games could not be put on air but hopefully this would be effected as soon as Richard Overton is back from leave.

Stratford City Development

We might be able to work together as a plan is also underway to set up a wired up town. A meeting has been arranged with Arup & G-Cluster, which would take place very shortly.

School
Jan Bless said that the school would appreciate it if RO could inform the school before coming, who would be coming with him and a brief description of what to be done. Identification tags f or those coming into the school would be appreciated. Unfortunately nothing could be done at his last visit so the installers were then taken to C &D to install their system. This means that there is no more money to fund the connectivity to the school.

Plato and Learndirect.

No leeway with Learndirect on how it could be accessed on the system while a meeting would be held with Plato soon.

Integer

Richard Stubbs explained the idea that had been raised for using the Stratford City development as an educational resource. He had raised the possibility with Integer and Arup and would report back on any further developments. Jan Bless said that the school would be interested.

4.      The Media Trust and H2H.

Nicola explained that films have been made following the Master planners on the Estate, various meetings, and interviews of residents, which are now on the system. 5 options have been presented to residents for them to look at and air their opinion before making a choice.  Councillor Bailkie questioned the reason why master planners should be put on H2H. Tim Willis explained the situation

Videos made by Janiz and other videos would be put on the system very soon.

Picture of our young reporters Joanna, Sarah and Nicola’s were put on New Start magazine that had a very positive outlook on the whole project.

5.      Coming events

Open day at the school – 2nd July 2003.

Open day – 21st July

Conference – NDC executives presenting Dfse point of view.

Work shop – 10th July –London Connect on what has been going on.

AOB

Tim Wills asked if we had formal terms of reference, Long-term objective plans or any other reference plan that one could refer to. This had never been formally agreed so it was decided that Richard S., Tee and Rick would draft what they understood to be the current situation.

The meeting was then rounded up at 5.00pm

Next meeting 21st July at the same venue at 3pm.
