Dec 2002
Apologies Richard Overton. Richard Steel (would be late)
In Attendance:
John Defoe
Paul Whiteman
Rick Smith
Simon Galliman
Annie Keane
Linda Salim
Richard Stubbs.
Tee Fabikun.
Richard Steel.
The £50,000 promised by Chris Wood is yet to be given despite Annie’s emails and efforts.
The Community Funding day was very useful. A number of leads would be followed.
Paul Whiteman explained that the Council was not using Plato in its schools as it had chosen an alternative product however there was no objection to the material being made available on the Carpenters Connect system.
2. Roll out of set top boxes.
Richard Stubbs reported that the roll out for the set top boxes is going on very well. The Installation team is very good and is learning on the job. The new sub – contractor from Blick is using the same booking system, which makes the job easier for all as both parties could work together. This could not be said for the wiring as it is giving everyone a headache due to the problems it is giving.
The security on the High rise buildings have been destabilised due to the way CAT5 is set up in some homes.
Installation of the set top boxes would end this week until next year when another launch would give the necessary publicity and rekindled interest. H2H would likely re -employ some of the current staff as they have done a good job. About 200 set top boxes have been set up.
There should have been a penalty clause on the work done by Blick. This would be looked into as their work/lack have negatively affected our own performance and delivery.
3. Developments – technical
No problems on the infrastructure, all the cabinets have locks now. The e-mail is working but there is no filtration. More work is needed on the portal, which can only be done by Richard Overton.
The user account seems to be working very well and any minor adjustments would be done before Christmas.
Free to air would let us know by February if we could use them. At the moment, live broadcasting is too expensive to maintain so an alternative is being sought.
VNL is looking into ways of extending to Stratford. This could mean that we could work together on some things.
The filtering had gone off on the set top boxes so it is difficult for a tab to be kept. This means that all the installed boxes would have to be reprogrammed, as it could not be done any other way.
4. Development: Organisation.
MT reported that a half hour film would be shown on Tuesday 17th Dec. The film –“Living in the High life” in about the problems and joys of living in the high rise. It is hoped that it would get people talking and make use of the web.
The other film is home stories, which is the various views people have on “home”.
The film is being edited but technical problems are delaying the final cut.
The film group is still going strong and would be editing some films soon.
Web board could not be used because usernames are yet to be created.
5. Finance.
Looks like we won’t be getting any money from IBack. GO advised that we should appeal against the decision.
We are yet to get any feedback from ODPM. Rick Smith promised to follow this up.
LDA is matched with RDA and looks like it won’t be easy getting something out of them.
6. WuC Final Conference. – Jan 22nd – 23rd 2003.
The project is now full. Will show the same film shown at the Launch. The Minister would come and would be introduced to all the projects. MT made a film about Newham, which would be shown too. 2-300 copies of this film would be made into CD and given to various projects.
People could attend the Conference for the day at but no more spaces for dinner or rooms.
7. Demos
Stephen Timms would be visiting the Estate on Friday 7th Feb 2003. GLA, Alex Bax, Glenda Jackson, Shawcross and LDA have all shown willingness to visit the Estate but a date is yet to be agreed for this.
8. School.
Jan Bless was not present to give a report.
9. Project Management Update.
Some money is still tied up in the project, which would be collected back from the Council like the £26,000 used for trenching.
Most likely there would be a job share for the Project Manager’s job as there was a tie in the interview and the candidates are willing to share the job. The job would start soon so as to cover the Christmas period.
Carpenters Connect will likely be the project that might eventually go national.
There then followed a general discussion on finance and the various options and leads that could be followed.
10. AOB
True vote needed a port, which could not be provided by the College so Carpenters Connect would make this available so that the voting could take place.
Next meeting Monday 20th Jan 2002 at the TMO’s Hall.
