The meeting was called to order by the chair Tim Willis at 3.15pm
The
minutes of 21st July were adopted.
Richard Stubbs gave a detailed report on staff and staff salaries and how long we could keep the staff on.
· ODPM funding would be launched soon. It has four themes, the funds split into three phases with the funds being released in Feb/March. The ODPM funds would have to be matched.
· New SRB/Newham Training Network
The new £150,000 NRF monies given to C&D to develop video and music facility can be used as match for SRB but then there is still a need of developing a community enterprise that will generate income over the life of the project
· NTN Funds
The C&D has won a £8,000 towards the H2H project to pay for a range of training. This hopefully would be a step towards achieving training funds.
Technical Issues.
· Cabling.
Richard Overton explained that the cabling was half done which annoyed residents in those flats not done.
· New Developments
An electronic TV guide was produced but unfortunately we were refused consent by the content publishers to use their information so the Guide cannot be placed on the system.
· Games.
New Games are now live on the system.
· Free to Air
So far only 5 channels are live on the system.
· C&D Centre
Got £150,000 funding to create a centre for producing electronic music. Richard Overton would be having meetings with the management on how we could all work together.
· Back up link.
There is still no back up for the system. Work has started but yet to be completed.
· Set top boxes.
Pace seems undecided on whether to continue with the DSL4000 set top boxes or not and have reduced their cost substantially.
Home 2 Home
· Simon Gallimore explained that that the consultations with the Masterplanners have been extended till end of October. There would be series of meetings and various films/videos are being planned like FAQ.
· Hansard society was supposed to organise an event where various organisations could tell residents what could be done.
· The system is being redesigned so that it would be easier to use.
· Twelve young learners were trained during the holidays. The funding bid to cover the cost of this was unsuccessful so the TMO board would be approached for the promised money.
· The holiday experience saw the need of setting up of the Young People’s group, which will soon be set up.
· A 5-aside Soccer match is being planned. An FA coach and three adults all living on the Estate have volunteered to train the kids. Training has started with quite a number of kids turning up for training. Would move the training indoors during the cold season.
· H2H Content & your Newham.
The Media Trust has a new job with Newham Council. Will be making two films that will be launched in October.
·
NRF
Three research films to be made for the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund.
School and Carpenters College
· A meeting is being arranged to sort out the work still needed at tha school. The service to the College is working fine.
AOB
· A meeting was held with Video Networks Limited to discuss various ideas and the transfer of the H2H technologies and ideas into the Borough
· A big “Thank You” to Paul who is leaving Newham Council and would no longer be a member of the steering group.
· This would be Rick Smith’s last meeting with the steering group as a representative of DfES though he was interested in a continuing involvement which was welcomed.
The meeting came to and end around 4.30pm while next meeting is on the 20th October 2003 at 3.00pm
