1 Minutes of Last Meeting and Matters arising
Copies of the minutes of the last meeting were circulated, read and adopted as the true copy of the meeting.
2.1 Richard Overton of Internet Vision was called away to another meeting so Richard Stubbs gave the report.
Although Ivision promised to help us out, with the various delays happening on site, it seems they might have to withdraw their offer as they have pressing contracts that need seeing to. Even at the moment there is no definite promised date when the cabling work here might be completed.
2.2 The Interface Template was received from Ivision and tested but it crashed while being tested and is being corrected.
2.3 Low Rise
connectivity is being done but already there is a £60,000 overrun on the
scheduled price this means that there might not be sufficient fund to the
houses unless someone could underwrite the expense. Most likely the houses
would be told of the lack of funding while looking for source, then it will be
a pleasant bonus if the connectivity is then done.
Carole Gilligan explained that they have a license and have started working with the local people.
3.1 The editing suite is completed and an Editor, Ms Ann Ark Install has already started work on the films shot.
3.2 MT have been able to shoot 23 films which include “Meet the Neighbours”, 4 recipes and the History group
3.3 The MT staffs are working from the site now and they all have a good rapport with the residents and all is going on very well.
3.4 Annie Keane is now on maternity leave and Ms Melissa Blackburn has already stepped into her shoes.
4.1 BBC will decide by May when to include the Intra-active Educational programmes.
4.2 Brian Taylor reported that the name Cyber-Angels will be changed to “Wired Patrol” to involve the whole of Newham.
4.3 DKTV should be sending their video for us to test if it will work with our system.
4.4 The Estate Portal will be created by Ivision and hopefully it should work with our system.
4.5 The use of Free TV has now become a legal issue maybe by the end of the day free digital films might be watched on our system. MT promised to look into if and will render any help if necessary.
4.6 Microsoft will be launching a similar project as ours soon, but will give us all the support once we go live.
4.7 NHS Direct had a good meeting with Richard Stubbs and will be supplying us with an interactive Video for our use.
4.8 Plato – hopefully this should be installed very soon.
4.9 Brian Taylor will send the new Start- Here disc to Satnam for testing.
4.10 UK online: Efforts are being made to obtain the new portal for the estate.
4.11 Video On Demand – Still talking to Blockbusters that looks promising.
4.12 Paul Whiteman asked why the Steering group decision to use MPEG2 had not been adhered to Richard Stubbs was to keep compatibility with material developed for Kingston by BBC and NHS. Continuing to explore options for dealing with both MPEG1 and MPEG2
5.1 Brian Taylor will be looking into the End User License Agreement and will get back to us by the end of April.
5.2 The contract between LBN and Newham.net to manage the whole project is yet to be signed. Brian will check and work closely with Richard Stubbs.
5.3 MCPS, PRS&PPL licences. Although MT is covered will have to check esp. re Carpenters Connect.
5.4 Property Insurance: All PC equipment is covered; Audio visual equipment would then be on additional cover for a small fee. Satnam will look into this and to investigate cover for when carrying it around the estate.
5.5 RIPE – Result is yet to be known.
5.6 SRB – Sarah Reid to be contacted so as put in a fresh application for staff salaries.
5.7 Telco – Draft application have been tendered but no reply yet.
5.8 The Content agreement between Media Trust and Newham Council will be signed soon.
Detailed written report was given and explained. Hopefully Test should start soon. Launch likely in June but a High profile do will be in September.
It was agreed that a professional PR personnel to be used to handle the public launch. Richard Stubbs to talk to LBN Communications Department about it. A high profile person to be sought to perform the launch, John Healey and/or Stephen Timms would be appropriate.
A separate estate launch would be given for the Home 2 Home service. Need to liase closely with TMO. Carole agreed to draft a schedule for the event.
8 Linked Projects
8.1 Carpenters School – MT working with the school on some projects. The school seem overwhelmed by all the happenings. The school also tend to need a lot of notice for anything to be done.
Paul Whiteman stressed that he wanted to see the physical link between the two networks configured so that services could be transparently accessible in both directions.
8.2 Hansard Project – Carole is waiting for the feedback on various discussed projects with the body.
8.3 Sure-Start: Linda will be having a meeting with them very shortly. Carole also had a meeting with them on how they wish to be portrayed/promoted.
