More excellent newsNEWTEC has won £400,000 to establish an ICT Centre of Excellence at 22 Deanery Road. The money forms a key part of the funding package for the extension of NewTec's premises and will meet the cost of equipping the Centre. Building work is underway and it is expected that the Centre will open in November. The Centre will have four computer rooms one of which will be connected to the Internet via a leased line. A business training suite will provide facilities for businesses to explore the use of multimedia and will act as a focus facilitating learning and collaboration between employers and (potential) employees. The Family Technology suite aims to bring people back into learning through promoting family and community learning, even the nursery will house 6 computers. It looks as though Newham's current generation of youthful web masters, aged 12 and up, may soon have younger competition. The centre will feature state of the art support for multimedia production including scanners, high quality colour laser printers, video camera, LCD projector along with an extensive range of software. The facilities will be open 6 days and 4 evenings for 48 weeks per year including opportunities for distance learning access at other times. Partners include Stratford Development Partnership, Children's Discovery Centre and Computer Access. For further information contact Chris Leigh
